Things to be happy about:

1)Its the 29th Febuary.  Ive been alive through 6 of these, that makes me nearly a week older than I should be.

2)Finally sorted out my expenses problem, so £500 coming to me.  Nice!

3)Ive got tickets to see my new favourite band Vampire Weekend at the wedgewood rooms on the 12th May…the day before my birthday.  Excellent present to me I think.

4)The damage to my car isn’t as bad as I thought it was.

5)Steak for Tea

6)My blood type is O positive.  I finally got the confirmation through.

Hmm, looking at it, these things aren’t that exciting.  Just shows you how crap my week has been for this to be the top 5 things making me happy.

28 02 2008

10 years, 10 sodding years without hitting anything in my car, or the other way around.  Why then this morning did I have to go and reverse into that Vauxhall Frontera.  Luckily, there was no damage to that at all, but the boot of my car is all mangled.  I am really annoyed with myself, but to be fair it was camoflaged.  It was grey.  It was also raining and there was a grey fence behind it.  See Camoflaged.

Doesn’t stop me feeling like a complete fool though.

As if my day couldn’t get any worse, I get to my office to find my old boss stood outside.  The one who I blame for forcing me to leave Homebase.  So I was accosted by him, only to find out that there is a Homebase regional meeting in the conference centre next to my office.  God knows who is in there but it could be bad.  Now they know where I work.  I think I may block up the windows.

Evening update.  If things ouldn’t get worse, it truns out that I had left my lights on.  Cue having to find someone to jumpstart my car.  What a day, I am so glad its almost over.  Now I am watching the best of Tom Cruises crap films…Cocktail.  Legendary!

Do All Knights Play Skiffle?

27 02 2008

Thought that I would share a conversation that me and the Housemate had whilst in the Edge of the Wedge last night.  It was acoustic night apparantly, but as usual I misread the sign and pondered at great length about the fact that a Knight could use his armour to play acoustically.  It would make a great washboard.  Which then leads onto the question “Do all Knights play skiffle?”

Minor Annoyance

27 02 2008

Yesterday I made some sandwich filing that would last me 2 days.  today the Housemate stole it for their lunch.  I am mildly peeved.  I was running late and had to make some more.  From now on I lick my cheese.

Turn up the Volume matey!!

26 02 2008

I went to see Klaxons tonight and they weren’t great, they were alright.  Still, I had a good time.  The problem is that they can’t play the first 2 songs of the set live.  The problem is the volume of the keyboards.  Why not turn this up to the volume that it should be?  Oh and turn down the SHOUTING.  It makes no difference that I think that Atlantis to Interzone is the best song of 2006, if its rubbish live its rubbish.  Still they got their act together after about 4 songs and Golden Skans was actually really good.

Its late now, so I may try and tidy this up tomorrow.

Great Minds Watch Crap TV

25 02 2008

I met up with Ebby last friday.  She came down to visit, and as we havn’t actually met before it could have been a bit odd, she is an old school friend of Devs, although they have not seen each other for 10 years.  However it wasn’t odd and it was a lot of fun, we laughed a lot.

I picked Ebby up from the station and then went back to mine luckily we managed to recognise each other, although she thought that I would be wearing a hat.  We had a bit of a chat and then went out for a Chinese which was really good.  The housemate came with us and between us we had 1/2 a crispy duck and pancakes (my favourite) and then 4 dishes and some rice.  By the end of it we were all stuffed and we went to the pub, but didn’t last long as we were all knackered.  We had been talking about films during the evening and it turned out tha Ebby hadn’t seen one of the greatest films ever made, the 1980’s John Hughes classic Ferris Buellers Day Off.  So we went home and watched that, I don’t think that me or the Housemate gave too much away, but the film shone through and I Ebby seemed to enjoy the film, with chuckles coming for the classic lines.

Anyway after that we sat up until 2am watching crap TV.  Including Americas Most Smartest Model, where the dumbasses had to dissect a piglet, with one of the models calling the deceased a ‘Soviet’ because it wouldnt fit in the tray.  The main thing in this programme is that they all called intelligence ‘smarts’, with the best use being “I don’t have book smarts, i’ve got street smarts”  That was after one of the contestents had asked what was Mary Alice Stephensons surname.  She had said Alice.

After watching a Dance off style programme we turned in for the night, and on the Saturday we went to the beach, which was cold, wet and windy but fun, then to the Petersfield Bookshop where we spent about an hour mooching around the rows and rows of 2nd hand books.  At one point I had lost Ebby and had to get directions from a shop assistant to where she was looking at the poetry section.  Once we had made our purchases we headed down to Port Solent to have some food before I took her back to the train station.  This was a fantastic day and we had a great laugh.  I believe that we will meet up again soon, and are planning a bit of a party in Juneish time where we will drag Dev and KP, Bimbo, Fat Bob and May-Z to dorset for the weekend.

Anyway, digression again, during the evening I met up with Smyles and Cath and we went to the pub.  It was a bit 3rd wheel like for me but hey, it was good to see them.

Later folks.

Falling for Lavender

20 02 2008

Lightspeed ChampionFalling off The Lavender Bridge by Lightspeed Champion.

I have had some fluey coldy thing recently and so been ordering stuff from Amazon recently so am back in reviewing phase.  First up is  Falling off of Lavender Bridge by Lightspeed Champion a.k.a Dev Hynes (formerly of the excellent sounding and brilliantly named Test Icicles who are unfortunately no more).

This is a great album its got some great lyrics especially on Everyone I Know is Listening to Crunk.  What I like best about this is the almost Country and Western style slide guitar, as well as pianoy parts and group harmonies.  I get the feeling that I should be writing more, but I am having minor writers block.  But I say buy this album, its well worth it.

The Day After

13 02 2008

I gave blood yesterday, today I feel like rubbish.  What are the chances of that then?

12 02 2008

I am going to give blood for the first time this afternoon, so I am a little bit nervous, but I think it should be easy enough, my arms resemble a tube map of London and so they should find a vein.

I’ve wanted to give blood for years ever since a friend did when we were about 8 or 9.  He was given a He-Man figure so my hopes are running high.  If not a cup of tea and a biscuit will do.  But still there are a couple more reasons, firstly I thought that it may be a good idea to know my blood type as I do a lot of travelling and thats the sort of information that may come in useful, but also as this is the Year of Living Dangerously, I thought that I would give something back.

You never know, I might end up with it back again.

Excess Gravity

11 02 2008

I have just had one of the best weekends in ages.  It started out on Friday night when Dev, KP, Fat Bob and Bimbo arrived on my doorstep.  After a hasty meal of Pizza and Wine the 6 of us, myself and the Housemate included headed up to out (not so) Local, the George.  We had a few drinks, and I bumped into a few people that I went to school with and then headed back to the executive penthouse for another beer and an arguement about music and which track had the better guitar riff, Back in Black or Smells like Teen Spirit.

As we woke up on Saturday from the various places we had been sleeping (I for one was in the hallway) I made everyone bacon sandwiches and then we all headed over to hayling for a spot of beach cricket as the day was so nice.  We found a spot of sand and were unfortunate to have the tide coming in, which cut short our game.  Even my makeshift sea defences didn’t work and soon the stumps were almost swept away by a wave.  After Lunch at the Ferryboat in we headed back to watch the end of the afternoons sport.  Pompey won, so I was happy.

In the evening, the 6 of us went off into the wilds of Albert Road for a pint in the Bold Forrester and then on to see New Found Glory at the Wedgewood rooms.  I have loved NFG since about 1998/99 when they released From the Screen to Your Stereo, a 6 track album featuring covers of famous songs from films, and I am delighted they are releasing a sequal to this.  A small digression there, but this is a band that I really like and have wanted to see for a while as I always associate them with being high energy and having a good time.  They really didn’t dissappoint me.

The othe band playing were an american group called Condition who I thought were really good and You, Me at 6, a hotly tipped young English band, who sound exactly like about 6 others that 14 year olds like.  They started well, but only played about 6 songs and the left for the main event.  I have to say that there were a lot of highlights in NFG, but Dressed to Kill and the version of King of Wishful Thinking that they did were sheer class.  Needless to say I have now pre ordered the new album from Amazon.

So Sunday came and we decided that as the weather was so lovely we would head up to the Spinnaker tower for a view over Portsmouth, which was great, because I hadn’t been before.  It was opened in 2005 and a celebration of the Millenium since Jesus’ 5th birthday.  The first level is 100m and has a glass floor, which you can walk over (Or if you were the little kid, do knee slides over, I wish I had done that, it looked awesome).

Then we went and had a meal in Chiquitos, as we couldn’t decide what we wanted Dev forever the smartarse decided that he wanted Mexican, and we did.  We got Fat Bob some balloons for his birthday, for which he was most greatful and embarrassed.  We only wanted one, but the waitress brought back 6 with her.

That was pretty much the whole awesome weekend, I can’t honestly write about most of the conversations that we had, as everyone would think that we were mad.  But I will say that KP was right.  Man U.  lost and Liverpool didn’t, Jo Brand isn’t funny, a tennis ball is now floating somewhere in the English channel and I had an fantastic weekend.

Cheers all.
