Quizaroo

Tuesday night was my debut as quiz master in the Sunshine inn.  It was down to me as we won the quiz the month before.  The winner of the first quiz each month has to write the quiz for the next month.   After much Umming and erring I decided that I was going to do a travel quiz.  I managed to do 9 musical intro’s of songs with place names in the titles, varying from Led Zeppelin (Kashmir) to Stiff Little Fingers (Alternative Ulster) and Editors (Munich).  I think it all went down quite well.   The picture round was on famous buildings and the cities that they are in.  So there were pictures of the Taj Mahal., Brandenburg gate, Eiffel tower and Burj Al Arab hotel, as well as a few more obscure ones.    The main quiz was divided up into sections with 5 in each group.  I have posted the questions below.  People told me that it was interesting and they enjoyed it, which I am glad about.

2 In A Row

We had a stormer of a Pub Quiz last night.  We won for the second week running.  This time by 9 points.  We got 5 wrong, which is amazing.  We were let down by 70′s tv theme tunes. 

 

Stop The Pigeon

That was our Team name at the quiz last night.  We did very well on the music round 8 1/2 out of 9.  It would have been 9 had they been a bit kinder with their marking. The picture round fell into our favour too, being name the airlines from their plane tail markings.  Between us we had been on over 10 of them.

In the quiz proper we did alright too.  Laura got 5 out of 5 on the Pseudonym round. Do you know what Demi Moore’s real name is?  Nope nor did I.

We won by 4 points in the end, which is really good considering we thought that there would be a lot of people getting high scores.  Just goes to prove that Andy’s knowledge of cheesy pop music does coem in useful.

Graduated

A while back I was at Flat 6 with Afro Aid, Andy and Stu watching the Graduate.  Dave was there too.  For some reason this film (a classic) made Dave Irate, really really angry.  He wanted to leave twice but we told him it was a good film which it is.  Still he hated the film, and it turns out that he has no empathy for the character of Dustin Hoffman and he hates the female lead for going back to him even though he has treated her like an idiot.

Anyway, last saturday the Daily Fail  was giving away a copy of the film free on DVD, so we all bought a copy.

Last night at the pub Quiz we decided to give them to him, we cunningly hid them in his coat pockets while he was at the bar, and then called ourselves Check Your Pockets Dave.

He didn’t find it funny.

Quizzing

As last night was tuesday, our depleated team made its way to the pub.  Myself the Housemate and Flat 6 Andy were the only ones there.

The picture round was flags of the Middle East and Asia, we got 9 out of 20, which was a bit of a fluke.  The Music round was even worse.  It was on 80′s and early 90′s hair metal (Van Halen, Kiss, Def Leppard and the like).  We got 2 and a half, getting Faith No More in there was a blessing.

In the ordinary rounds we came good, we even got 5 out of 5 for Art and Literature.  We didn’t think that we would win with a score of 47 and a half, but what do you know, we did, by 1 and a half points.  Its the first time in ages we have won.  Which was nice.

Champions Again

We won the Pub Quiz last night, which was a nice surprise after coming last in the last 5. We didn’t only win, we won by a fairly big margin of 5 points. I will say however that Andy G got all 20 of the picture round on Formula 1 drivers. We ended up getting 41 out of 60.

Did anyone know that Elvis Presley was a black belt in Karate? I didn’t but apparantly The Boy Lord did.

I knew that Stellenbosh was in South Africa and that St Patrick was once a Slave. I know some random stuff

Shame we aren’t going next week so that we can defend our well earned title.

Still, can’t win em all. This now means that we have won twice, which is great.

Coolness

I was talking to Andy on Tuesday at the pub quiz (just the 2 of us, we came last, but not by much and we got a good score) about things that we have done, and it turns out that I have done a lot and my looking back at it my life has been much cooler than I thought or seem to remember. 

I suppose I may have blocked the coolness out of my mind by spending so much time in a bad mood, but now I can look at these things in a slightly more objective way.

As you can tell, I’m not one for package holidays.  I went on one when I was an adult and didn’t like it.  This list will probably keep getting bigger as I remember or think of ways to phrase things, but for now its a start.

Blood Glorious Blood

I went to give blood yesterday, its the 2nd time that I have done it. Portsmouth Guildhall was full of people, and for those that had walked in there was an hours wait, luckily I had booked, so didn’t have to wait too long.

My blood was checked for Iron, by the sink test (The more Iron you have the quicker your blood sinks). I have a lot of Iron apparently, must be all of the Guiness I drink. So I made it to stage 2 where I actually had to donate my blood. Last time this took ages to do, I must have been having a slow blood day, but this time, I was racing another guy to finish the pint. He even had a head start on the green flashing light, but I caught him up. There is nothing like having a competitive streak.

Anyway, good deed done for the day I went back to the office with my “Be nice to me, I gave blood today sticker” (It didn’t work), and then went to the pub for the Tuesday evening pub quiz, where we came spectacularly last.

Tacky the Dog was returned to my room last night, and has since been put in the microwave for The housemate to find when he is making fajitas tonight.

Kicking Myself

It was pub quiz last night, we had 3 in our team, which is not the greatest turn out, and we came 4th.  The quiz however, was the hardest that we have had, but I did, and it was me on my own, get 18 1/2 on the picture quiz.  It helped that that was Album Covers.

The reason that I am kicking myself though is that there was a round on African Capital Cities, we got one out of 5, but it should have been a lot more.
